FAQ

At BMW Motorrad Performance Academy, we understand how challenging it can be to decide which training provider or course you should start with when there are so many choices available.

Read on below for answers to our most frequently asked questions...

What are the rider requirements for taking part?

To take part in any of our Performance Academy courses, you must be over the age of 21 and hold a valid UK Motorcycle licence issued by the DVLA. We're unable to accept provisional or A1/A2 restricted licences.

All Riders must wear the following, at all times whilst on the circuit:

  • A one- or two-piece leather suit that MUST zip together fully i.e., around the whole body
  • A helmet that meets BSI 6658 type A, with the ACU gold stamp
  • Calf-length Leather motorcycle boots
  • Leather race-circuit approved gloves, with a cuff strap that must go over the cuff of your leathers
  • Mandatory Back Protector

Please note: Titanium sliders and boot edges are prohibited

You can see recommendations for protective equipment here.

Can I use my own motorcycle?

All BMW Motorrad Performance Academy courses include the use of our track-ready fleet of high performance BMW Motorrad motorcycles, expertly maintained and specially prepared for you, in order to make the most of our tuition. Sadly, we're unable to allow any rider to use their own machine on these events.

I can't wait to try the S 1000 RR on circuit but what about insurance?

When you arrive, you'll be welcomed by our team for sign on and a short briefing. From there, our team will take you into our pit garage and introduce you to your bike for the day. They will give you a thorough introduction to the bike, do a little paperwork (maximum ÂŖ2500 damage excess form) and make sure you are all ready to get on track.

When booking, you have the option to remove your excess for a fixed fee of just ÂŖ120.

Didn't select it when booking? This can be added up to midnight, the day before your course date.

What happens if the weather is poor?

Barring extreme weather conditions, it's exceptionally rare that we may have to cancel an event due to adverse weather conditions. Our events do take place if it is wet.

During poor weather, circuit conditions will be closely monitored throughout the day. If the circuit is deemed unsafe by the event team, we will delay circuit activity until it is safe to proceed. In the rare event that the circuit is deemed unsafe to run without any circuit activity taking place, we will transfer your booking to another date or issue you with a full booking value credit note. Unfortunately, we cannot rely on the weather forecast in most cases and the decision not to run is most frequently made on the day of the event. Please note, we cannot be responsible for third party costs incurred due to any cancellation.

Is there a waiting list for fully booked course dates?

We do keep a waiting list, in case of late notice cancellations. Please use our 'Contact Us' page above to provide us with your contact details and preferred course Level & date. In the event that a space becomes available, we'll contact everyone on our reserve list with the space bookable on a first-come-first-served basis.

We had the track to ourselves, the bikes were fantastic. I was blown away by how much 1:1 time I got, with the legend that is Steve Plater. Out of this world, top job. I'll be back next season!
